There are so many reasons why brides should consider bridal portraits before their wedding day. From seeing how your makeup looks on camera, to enjoying more time with guests on your wedding day! In this blog, we are going to go over 7 reasons why every bride should consider taking bridal portraits.

1. Make use of your vendor’s free trials!

If you plan on hiring a makeup artist, hairstylist, and florist it’s a great idea to also plan on taking bridal portraits. Bridal portraits are a great way to show how your makeup will look on camera – if it’s too much or too little, making sure it photographs the way you want it to! You can even choose to do something more dramatic or out of the box and leave the traditional bridal makeup for the wedding!

Bridal portraits are also a great way to make sure hair stays put! You can even change up your hairstyle for the portraits so your photos have variety – which is always nice. Go with your second hair option for bridal portraits and the first option for the actual wedding day.

Seeing a wedding bouquet on camera is so different than holding it. Use bridal portraits to find the perfect size bouquet that isn’t too much or too little. See if there is anything you’d like to add or take away! You may find that you want it a bit bigger or smaller in size. There are so many perks to seeing the way wedding florals come together!

2. Dress Alterations: Does it fit PERFECT? How about the length? Are you stepping on it when you walk?

Trying on a wedding dress and getting it altered without wearing the dress in real-life situations can lead to dragging and even a chance of falling on the wedding day. Bridal portraits give you a great opportunity to be sure your wedding dress fits you like a glove! You do not want to realize your dress is scratching, pinching, bunching, or dragging the DAY you say “I Do”. If this happens during your bridal portraits, I have techniques on how to make it work out so you have time to get it altered before the wedding day without having your bridal portraits ruined!

3. Accessories: Does the jewelry compliment everything seamlessly? Is it too much?

Seeing your accessories come together for your bridal portraits gives you a great opportunity to add or take away. At times when we are planning for a big occasion, we tend to over-accessorize and it can be hard to imagine what it looks like in photos. Portraits give you time to test out more or less accessories. You can even take this opportunity to wear accent pieces (like a hat for instance) that you don’t necessarily want to wear for the wedding!

4. Shoes: Do they fit properly? Are they comfortable?

This is so important. Shoes need to be broken in. You may find that you need a bit of extra support OR the shoes DON’T FIT. Bride’s commonly find that the shoe they chose is too big or too small. If this is the case, you can bet on your feet aching by the time your reception rolls around. Wearing your shoes for a bridal session also ensures that the length of your gown is PERFECT for the shoes you’ll be pairing with it. Bridal portraits give you an opportunity to choose between wearing the same shoes all night, or switching them to something you can actually walk and dance comfortably in, during the afterparty!

5. Display Bridal Portraits During The Wedding Reception

Since you will be doing your bridal portraits well in advance, you will have time to print out your favorites and have them displayed for your guests to enjoy. Sharing your bridal portraits with your guests gives you another reason why you should consider a bridal session in the first place!

6. Bridal Portraits Offer More Time With Guests

We will not need to sneak you away for bridal portraits during sunset, which is usually right when the reception is kicking off! This means you will enjoy more time with your friends and family! Many times, guests travel great distances to celebrate you. Most couples want to spend as much time as they can, making lasting memories with the ones they love most! Taking portraits in advance will release the pressure of a tight wedding timeline. This way you gain more time with guests and for your romantic photos with your groom!

7. Bridal Portraits Offer the Option of Different Locations

Portraits give the opportunity to shoot your bridal session at a location that isn’t your venue! The possibilities are limitless here. Are you dreaming of an epic mountain view? What about sand dunes that roll into the horizon? Even a forest with towering trees or a sunset at the beach. You may not want to make your family travel to a destination location for the wedding, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have photos there! Bridal portraits will always make an incredible experience and enhance your wedding day. Being able to further plan the wedding of your dreams!

Overall, there are so many perks when booking bridal sessions. The list truly goes on! Spending a day to be sure it’s all “Just Right” is sooo worth it!!! And having photos to cherish is a bonus. We all don’t stay young and beautiful forever! I promise you are going to want to be able to show your grandchildren what you looked like when you married their grandfather!

Special thanks to all the vendors that made these portraits come together so beautifully!
