Sarah and Wesley’s Love Story

Sarah and Wesley’s wedding was filled with emotions and the most intimate moments. This wedding was completely different and I want to share some key moments from their special day.

Let’s start with how Sarah and Wesley met, from the bride herself:

“So at the time I was living in Gruver, TX with my mom. My dad had just taken a ranch manager position in Channing, TX for Smith Cattle. My mom and I went to spend Christmas break with my dad as well as the rest of my family. Wesley, at the time, was going to Eastern New Mexico University. He and his brother Jacob were day working for the ranch, so everybody in my family met Wes even before I did…”

“(cont.) I had received a Snapchat from my sister in law, Payton, which was a picture of Wes, telling me that I should talk to him. While what I didn’t realize at the time, Payton was trying to set Wes up with me while she was giving him a haircut. Through her plan she had talked Wes into going to the Christmas party that Smith Ranch has every year. Payton told Wes to dress nice because I would be there, so he did just that. Fast forward to the party, it was an instant connection between us two and we have never looked backed for a second. We talked all night just learning more about each other. Wesley was in college so we tried to get together every weekend we could and one of those weekends, March 26th 2017 to be exact, he asked me to be his girlfriend.” – Sarah

A Horse Named Spider

There was a moment at this wedding when I broke down in tears. As we took family photos after the wedding, I found that the Bride and Groom were being intentional with including a horse in their photos.

Side note, I had met this horse before. He was invited to take part in the couple’s engagement session a few months prior!

When I say I love this horse, I’m not kidding. As a girl that grew up in a small, country town, I have had my fair share of time around many horses. They can be a handful, but not Spider. He is different. His presence creates a shift in the atmosphere. One that I love. That feeling of a wild, strong and free spirit that is also gentle, kind and calming. There is just something about him.

At this time, I began to feel that there was a reason that Spider was making an appearance in so many photo ops, so I asked! And as tears swelled in my eyes, the Groom answered, “He represents my mom”. My jaw dropped. You see, D’aun had passed away and left her horse and family behind. She, of course, couldn’t attend her son’s wedding physically, but guess what? Her horse could. And what I’ve gathered about D’aun, is that she was a strong, beautiful, gentle, and an amazing mother that raised the most wonderful man who then grew up to marry the most spacial woman, Sarah.

Undoubtedly, to say that I feel honored to have captured this wedding is a complete understatement. It is a day and a couple that I will remember for the rest of my life. The love Sarah and Wesley shared on this day will forever move my heart. They are both amazing human beings and I will always consider them close friends. I only hope that I am able to take more photos with them, their future kiddos, and the amazing horse named Spider some day!

A Little Background About Spider

Spider was THE horse that D’aun (Wesley’s mom) rode for everything. She competed in ranch rodeos, roped, and worked off of this horse. She put her trust into Spider and Spider did the same. At the wedding, Spider symbolized the presence of D’aun; a cowgirl, a friend, and most of all, a mother. So as everybody watched Spider come down the aisle it was as if you see D’aun herself riding him. Many had flashbacks to the duo working or competing in rodeos and ropings. In each picture that Spider is featured in, it’s not just him… it is D’aun.

Sarah and Wesley’s western wedding was a sentimental day filled with immense love. It was a HUGE honor to capture their wedding and engagement photos!

This is absolutely beautiful. The sun hitting the saddle in the photo of the three of them absolutely tugged at my heart and took my breath away. His mom is definitely there with them. you can feel it through the beautiful photos! Congratulations! <3
